2020 Volkswagen Atlas

“Building off the success of the Atlas seven-seater midsize SUV, we see an opportunity for a five-seater model that offers even more style and almost as much interior space,” said Scott Keogh, CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. “We look forward to entering this growing segment with the Atlas Cross Sport, which offers outstanding Volkswagen technology, driver-assist features, style, and value.” The New Atlas Cross Sport is an exciting addition to the Volkswagen family, offering energetic styling, a multitude of features and a spacious interior. It is basically a sleeker, more compact version of the Atlas, providing two-row seating.

Highs: Especially stylish, packed well yet hugely comfortable, plenty of cargo room along with an exciting digital cockpit that comes with many fun tech features

Lows: Somewhat less family-friendly than the previous Atlas while still offering loads of room!

New Features!

  • The Atlas Cross Sport is 2.8 inches shorter and 2.3 inches lower than the Atlas, yet maintains the same wheelbase and engine options
  • Coupe-styling executed by the sloping roofline
  • A new three-bar chrome grille with signature lighting distinguishes the Cross Sport from the Atlas
  • New interior stitching accents on the doors and seats
  • Updated steering wheel with simplified buttons making it easier to use

Power and Performance:

The Cross Sport comes with 2 engine options: a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder with 235 HP or a 3.6L V6 with 276 HP. Both are coupled to an eight-speed automatic, and both are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive which features 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive with Active Control allowing you to switch between four different all-wheel-drive modes whenever you need to.

Fuel Economy & MPG

The Atlas Cross Sport comes with an EPA fuel-economy rating of 21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined for the front-wheel-drive model. The all-wheel-drive model comes in at 18, 23 and 20 mpg in comparison.

Interior & Cargo Capability

Enjoy plenty of room in the 2nd row seating and comfortably carry everything you need with 40.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 77.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Info & Entertainment Systems

It comes with a high-resolution touchscreen display with smartphone integration and a wireless charging pad so you will always be ready to go. Volkswagen offers Remote Access via their Car-Net connectivity app where you can lock, unlock, honk, start, and check on your car’s status from your phone.

Driver Assistance & Safety

  • Automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning
  • Blind-spot and Pedestrian Monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode
  • Display of speed limits, school zones, no-passing zones and more

Pricing & Model Types

  • Pricing won’t be announced until next year, but a VW representative revealed that it would be in the $30,000 range.
  • We also know that it will be offered in eight trim levels: S, SE, SE w/ Tech, SE w/ Tech R-Line, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL Premium and SEL Premium R-Line. So there will be plenty of options to choose from!

The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport will go on sale this coming spring but we expect to see more details, specs, and pricing soon!
